Exclusive interview with Alicia Coppola an American Actress

Hi Alicia, I'm very happy to do this interview. And I hope this finds you and yours safe and healthy.

Could you tell us about your character Sheila Mosconi in TV series Why Women Kill (2019– ) ?
 Sheila is every one of my NY Italian cousins and aunts on my father’s side of my family from Brooklyn and Staten Island NY.
It was very easy for me to slip into Sheila. She is passionate, funny, fiercely loyal and will cut you should you cross her or refuse her Lasagna. I loved the relationship between her and Ginny’s Beth Ann: It was a true love affair.
Sheila was the guiding force to Beth Ann’s journey.
Sheila was ahead of her time. She is her own woman, confident of who she is and whom she loves. She is unwaveringly herself. I loved every second I got to play her.

What did you like when you read the script ?
I love Marc Cherry’s work. I have always been a big fan. He writes women like no man ever since Joe Mankiewicz wrote All About Eve.
All the characters in Why Women Kill are written from the guts up and out. We were playing 3 dimensional women with big lives and even larger hearts.
These characters bled.
They all had Grit with a Capital G.  So often, female characters are written as men with vaginas. Very rarely are we written to use our feminine powers, the very things God bestowed on us. It was truly refreshing to play a woman and not a profession or a flimsy idea of what men think women are.

How was the filming with your co-stars and the creator  Marc Cherry ?
I enjoyed every moment with Ginnifer Goodwin. We had a very special chemistry that honestly I have not experienced before with another woman on film. We were very connected and had a very deep bond. I am grateful for that working relationship that translated into a lovely friendship.
I loved being directed by Lucy Liu. She is a formidable talent and I learned a great deal from her.
I fell in Love with Marc the moment I met him.
His talent is nothing compared to his huge heart. He came to set every day
to rehearse. He cares immensely about his characters. He trusts his actors to tell his story. That is huge.

Did you perform with your co-stars before ?
No. But I had worked with many of the crew.
 

How long did the shooting for one season about Why Women Kill ?
Filming was about 4 months.

You perform in "Monk",(2003 to 2005), "JAG" (1995-2005), "NCIS" (2003-), "NCIS: Los Angeles" (2009-), Castle (2011), Criminal Minds (2014)......
I like these series, Could tell us more on the filming of these  series ?
I very much enjoyed working on all these shows.

If I were to work on NCIS New Orleans, I would be the only actor to be on all three in different roles! My favorite of all of these that you mention is MONK. Working with Tony Shaloub was an absolute gift.

Tony was the first actor to tell me I was actually a comedienne.

His words remain with me as they gave me the courage to be my goofy  yet at times caustically funny self.

What is your next challenge ?
I know what you are asking but for where we are today...Challenge is the interesting word here.

I am sure I am not alone when I say I am trying to get thru everyday, quarantined with my three daughters and homeschooling.

I am trying to stay positive and find ways to express my creativity within the confines of home.

I am hopeful that our world comes out of this mess with dignity.  I hope we all rise up together so we may all come together. That is the Challenge. It is also the prayer.
